Lew's pro Brian Latimer writes from the last stop of the FLW tour at the Potomac River.
I’m writing this from the last stop of the FLW tour at the Potomac River, and I’m really looking forward to getting out here. This is one of the places that I’ve always wanted to make a stop, and this is my first trip here. In fact, by the time you read this, I’ll be competing in the tournament.
At the Potomac River there’s been a lot of really big events over the years. It’s been taking place here on the Stones River and supposedly the fishing is about as good as it’s ever been here. So you know it’s kind of hard to gauge whether it’s really good or if it’s mediocre what’s going on out here. There are some definitely some fish biting. I think you’ll see a lot of big bags weighing in throughout the event.
As far as my tournament, I had a decent practice this week, I didn’t have a bad practice. I don’t know whether I’m on something that can possibly won the tournament or anything like that, but it’s been a good week. I’ve had a lot of fun fishing here.
The good thing about fishing a place like here at the Potomac, is that it is tidal, so every six hours or so the tide moves in and out, so the water level fluctuates about three feet here. What that does is allow these little windows of fish activity.
A lot of times when you fish places like at home at Lake Hartwell, or if you go to a Beaver Lake, you’re pretty much depending on those first two hours of low light morning conditions to be your best times.
Where here at the Potomac, they can happen at any time. When tide turns, it gets right most of time, and most of the anglers like the last our last two hours of the outgoing tide so we’ve got about a hour and a half or so of outgoing tide in the morning.
I’m really looking forward to getting out there a few hours in. I think the last part of the day should be good, maybe an hour or so of that outgoing tide as well.
So, I think it’s going to be a lot of fun. I hope the fish cooperate with me and the areas that I found, and results will not lie. We’ll see what happens at the end of our day today at the weigh-in.
I hope you guys are tuned into flwfishing.com, to watch the weigh in live, as well as on day three and four there’s FLW Live, so you guys can actually watch us out there fishing, in real time on the internet as everything is going down, so you guys tune in, and I’ll check-in after the tournament concludes.
